Every season brings new things everyone suddenly seems to be talking about. Some are just for fun. Some actually make life better. Here's a look at what's trending right now, and the one trend we hope sticks around for good.
Water bottle charms
Your water bottle is now a fashion statement. Online searches for water bottle charms have jumped more than 8,000% according to the trend-tracking site Exploding Topics. People are clipping little charms, letters and keepsakes onto their bottles to make them personal. It's a small, joyful way to show who you are, and if it helps you drink more water, even better.
Balletcore and ballet flats
Soft, graceful style is everywhere. "Balletcore" fashion, inspired by dancers with wrap tops, leotard-style pieces and pastel colors, has grown about 4,000% in searches, and ballet flats are back in a big way. It's a reminder that comfort and elegance can go together.
Padel
Padel, a fast, fun racket sport that mixes tennis and squash, keeps growing around the world, and searches for padel shoes are up 2,000%. It's social, easy to learn and great for families and friends who want to move together.
Cold plunges and saunas
Hot-and-cold routines, switching between a sauna and a cold plunge, are another big wellness trend, with searches up about 3,500%. Many people say they feel refreshed afterward. If you're curious, start gently, and check with your doctor first if you have any heart or health concerns.
The trend we hope never ends: walking
The simplest wellness trend of all might be the most powerful. A new study led by King's College London and published in JAMA Network Open followed 5,515 young people who wore fitness trackers for a year. Teens who took fewer than 5,000 steps a day had the most symptoms of poor mental health, while those who took 12,000 or more had the fewest.
You don't need a gym membership or special gear. Just shoes and a few minutes. Walk with your kids after dinner. Walk with a friend instead of meeting for coffee. Walk and pray. It's free, it's for everyone, and it never goes out of style.
"But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." (Isaiah 40:31)
Trends come and go
Have fun with the trends you love. But remember that the things that truly make a life rich, like faith, family, friendship and caring for the body God gave you, never go out of fashion.
